why start a blog?

To be honest, I feel like I already have one.  My cartoons are blogs of sorts.  I think of "Brand Camp" as an online diary of my marketing life.  I've been emailing it out to people for the last 5 years, and it's spanned most of my marketing stints from General Mills to Dreyer's to method.

But, I just moved to London from San Francisco, and my weekly cartoons can't keep up the pace with all of the new things that I'm seeing here.  So, I thought it would be fun to post random things I'm seeing in marketing in the UK.  Some of my favorite brands are here (innocent, Gu, Dorset cereals), and I feel like a student again.  Also, I'm in the midst of helping introduce method to the UK.  We're just 4 people in a tiny office 2 months into our launch, and I thought it would be fun to capture the early days of our brand launch.

I'll post my cartoons too – along with a little backstory. This one is all about brand onions, brand architectures, brand tortillas, etc (it seems like every branding company has a different handle for this).  I was inspired by an article by Chris Forrest I found in "Market Leader" that I can't seem to find online.

  1. Congratulations on the launch of your blog! It’s going to be great to have your voice out here… Your illustrations do EXACTLY what a blog entry should do (but better)… Short, sweet, to the point, pithy, attention getting. I look forward to reading what you have to write… Welcome!
